Coastal breezes keep the farm cool in the summer and relatively warm in the winter.  The 650-foot elevation puts it out of the coastal fog zone.

The result of the unusual climate zone is that a wide variety of fruits and vegetables can be grown.

The farm's main product is baby lettuce which is produced all year.  In addition, a bounty of fruits are grown, including many kinds of citrus, pomegranates, figs, apples, cherimoyas, macadamia nuts, sapotes, jujubes, pears, mangoes, bananas, avocadoes, and several varieties of guavas.  Bees keep everything pollinated and honey on the table.  Breakfasts include whatever is in season.  Salads are always available!

Featured in several magazine and newspaper articles on organic farming, the farm also appeared in Kitty Morse's book The California Farm Cookbook.

Produce 
All grown organically on Blue Heron Farm, Peterson Specialty Produce features over 20 varieties of fresh, certified organic baby lettuce; wild honey; and other seasonal fruits including passion fruit, raspberries, strawberries, mangoes, and pomegranates. The lettuce is served in select restaurants and is available in various stores and markets and stores. Like the wild honey and organic fruit, the fresh baby lettuce is also available at various Southern California Certified Farmers Markets.
